Treasure Box XII: Where's my skateboard? song

We have created a room to sing "Where's my skateboard?" song and practise toys and prepositions. (ON/IN/UNDER)

This is our room!

At home, you can also play to find where each toy is.

- Where is the...        bike/scooter/car/doll/kite/board game?

- The bike is in the cupboard.

- The scooter is in the cupboard.

- The car is on the shelf.

- The doll is on the shelf.

- The kite is under the table.

- The board game is under the chair. 

But, what we really like is to sing the song at the time we find toys in the room!

Treasure Box XI: Animals minibook

We've created our third minibook! This one is to practise animals and their actions. 

First, we completed a worksheet...

And after that, we created our minibook!!!

Those minibooks are smaller than the others, but full of colour! Students chose their favourite colour!

While we read the minibook, we sing the following song:

Treasure Box X: Animals and actions game

We keep on working on our Treasure Box project. Now we have created the following craft to ask about what each animal can do: 

We keep on practising numbers and colours!

This is the way we play:

- Say a number from 1 to 6.

- What animal  is this?

- It is a giraffe.

- Choose a colour, please?

- Red.

- Can a giraffe walk?

Treasure Box IX: Food Fortune Teller

We call this craft-work a "Food fortune teller". 

When it is closed, you see eight different colours...

The activity involves folding a paper to make a toy that fits over students fingers. Once they can open and close it, they are ready to play!  

Students have to cut and fold this paper.

It is an excellent language activity and it can be adapted in lots of different ways. We are not only practising food, "Do you like...?" question and "yes, I do/ No, I don't" answers, but we are also remembering colours and numbers.

And when you open it, the food we are learning!

Students work in pairs and they follow this dialogue: 

- Say a number from one to ten.

- Eight.

- Choose a colour, please.

- Blue.

- Do you like...?

- Yes, I do/ No, I don't.

Treasure Box VIII: Eight in my Family song

We have done this brochure to draw a picture about "Eight in my family song" and write family members. 

  

We had all the drawings decorating our corridor. Let see if you can find your family picture in the following presentation!

Treasure Box VII: The Hand Family Poem

We did this craft-work to practice "The hand family poem!" It is a different way to remember family members.

Andrea Aldaz and Rakel Fagoaga, both English teachers who worked in Ezkaba School, shared it with me and whenever I teach family topic I try to introduce because students love it! Thank you Andrea and Rakel!

Treasure Box VI: Litlle Red Riding Hood minibook

We made our second mini-book to learn "Little Red Riding Hood" story and to practice parts of the body.

Not only students learned the story, they also completed the following tasks:

Treasure Box V: The Gingerbread Man puppet

We have learnt "the Gingerbread Man" song. The song, apart from being really catchy, was great to practice parts of the body! 

You can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread man!

We also did the following activities: 

Draw the parts of the body in the lyrics.

Draw a Gingerbread man and match.

Students wanted to sing it all the time, they really loved it! We also danced and had a great time moving our puppets and our bodies too!

Those are some of the puppets students made at home!!!

Treasure Box III: Incy Wincy Spider song

Our second craft-work was about the well-known "Incy Wincy Spider Song". 

  

Students had a great time climbing up and down the spider while they were singing along the song. We also learnt to sing it with finger actions. At the beginning it was quite tricky but they ended up doing it great!  

Incy Wincy Spider climbed up the water spout.

Down came the rain and washed poor Incy out.

Out came the sun and dried up all the rain.

So Incy Wincy Spider climbed up the spout again.

This is a traditional version but you can find millions of versions searching the net: 

Students really liked this funny version where spiders run a race. It's really catchy! I hope you enjoy it too!

Treasure Box IV: In the English Class mini-book

"In the English Class!" was our third content in the Treasure Box and it was also our first mini-book.

The main aim was to learn some of the actions we constantly repeat in the English classroom. Actions such as draw, colour, read, play, talk, sing and dance.

I would like to add that whenever we do a mini-book, we are learning much more than just English. We also develop fine motor skills, visual coordination and concentration. You can watch how to make it in the following video: 

Have in mind that students first get one piece of paper (A3 size paper) and they have to fold it and cut it till they create their own little books.

            

Once they did their little books, I started miming the actions and at the same time I was reading them from my mini-book. When students could recognise each action, they were ready to match sentences with pictures and copy them in their mini-books.

Idoia Solana, an English teacher in Ezkaba School, shared with me the amazing idea of introducing mini-books in our lessons and I really appreciate it. Thank you Idoia, I am very grateful for that!

Treasure Box II: The Rainbow Song

Our first content in the Treasure Box was "The Rainbow song". Thanks to this craft-work we could point the correct colour at the time we were singing the song. 

This is how we revised colours at the beginning of the School Year. Students wanted to sing it over and over again!

On the one side there is the rainbow.

On the other side the lyrics.

There are plenty of videos on the net. I let you the one we watched, even if the lyrics are slightly different.
